[Blog + New Art] My middle name is Rose…

And did it influence this new piece? I’m not sure, but that fact remains the same.

My middle name is Rose. It was my great-grandma’s middle name as well so I guess there’s an ancestral link to all of this should you want to look a little to deep into this work.

But really, like many people, I just really love roses. So when in Rome, sculpt roses.

Its funny to look up the wikipedia page for roses. It’s so pragmatic about the subject, but we all know roses mean so much to people.

WIki- A rose (/ˈrz/) is a woody perennial flowering plant of the genus Rosa, in the family Rosaceae. There are over 100 species and thousands of cultivars. They form a group of plants that can be erect shrubs, climbing or trailing with stems that are often armed with sharp prickles.

What that page misses is that roses are a sign of love, lust, and passion. And that’s just red roses! Every rose has some set of symbolism associated with the color. The Yellow Rose of Texas, Amber Rose, Citizen Kane, La Vie en Rose, and even Guns N Roses. They are part of every aspect of pop culture. Perhaps another reason I was inspired to sculpt one.

About this piece

This piece of rose art started around Valentine’s Day last year. I had a giant bouquet of red roses sitting next in my studio adding a splash of vibrant floral color to the room and it provided the perfect inspiration for my botanical sculpture.

What I am most excited about this piece is its simplicity. This sculpture can replicate someone’s wedding bouquet or to match a perfectly designed and curated living room.
